On February 17, 2026, the Washington Game Warden Association gathered in Spokane, Washington to host a solemn Line of Duty Death Memorial honoring the centennial End of Watch Anniversary of Deputy Game Warden Edward Jarisch — remembering his service, his sacrifice, and the enduring legacy of those who protect Washington's wild places.
On February 17, 1926, Deputy Game Warden Jarisch was investigating a suspected poaching in the Pend Oreille County area. He never returned home and a search was conducted, locating his body some time later. The autopsy showed he had been shot by a .38 special. The murderer was located by the Sheriff’s Office, who served 20 years in prison.
This Line Of Duty Death (LODD) Memorial service was organized by our own Gina Miller, whom did an incredible job. Gina tirelessly conducted research into the event, found the headstone of our fallen Officer, tried to contact remaining family and brought in pieces of history from this era.
At this memorial, were the honor guard from Spokane PD, Spokane County SO and WSP as well as representatives from the Pend Oreille County Sheriffs Office.
Prior to this event, WDFW Police has not had its own flag or LODD streamers, as like other agencies. Gina had made our flag, streamer and streamer pillow for these ceremonies. In addition to making these, she also made a challenge coin specifically for this event.
I can’t thank Gina enough for her efforts in this event and for our agency. She is bringing a level of pride and history to this agency we have not had before.
This event was funded with your WGA donations, thank you for your continued support.
